Aug 11, 2006 7:03am: Quick Note: if you've sent me a page recently, chances are that i haven't recieved it. so please don't be mad, i'm not ignoring you. i keep losing stumbles and this vexes me. the connection here is so slow now that i can only send pages and not recieve them. but i can recieve messages *hint* :)

Aug 9, 2006 8:50am: ARGH!
what was that, you ask? here goes: for the past 2 days the entire (all of it!) country has been without internet access. yes, ladies and gentlemen, all businesses, embassies, schools, colleges, stumblers, pornaholics and slackers living in the largest country in africa have been without a vital part of their existence (and isn't that just sad). gossip had it that the one (?!) server had up and died in a spectacular shower of sparks. this is the part where i made keening, dying-animal noises and tried not to panic.
so once i got over the shock, i spent that time relearning the faces of friends and family. this was, in some cases, quite unpleasant:

- me: what's that on your face?
- someone else: ...that's my mustache.
- me: ah. um...is that new?
- s.e.: i've had that for 19 years now.
- me: knew that. [awkward pause] so i haven't seen you in a while
- s.e.: i was here yesterday.
- me: right.
- s.e.: and all of last week.
- me: now you're just rubbing it in.

yes, i know: i am a whole new breed of pathetic. shut up. you don't have cousins that number in the hundreds.
